Chapters 13-15

In Chapter 13, Jonas learns about the other colors. He talks to the giver about sameness and how it keeps people from doing wrong. They can't choose the wrong color toy if there is no color. After his lesson, Jonas sees Asher and asks him about the flowers and if he can see any thing different about them. When Asher thinks Jonas is sick, Jonas says that he just thought the flowers were wilting.

In Chapter 14, Jonas is back on the hill with a sled but the hill is a lot steeper. As the sled moved foreword he grinned as it picked up speed. But something was wrong. The runners couldn't slice through the snow because it was too icy. Jonas picked a lot of speed. He went sideways and hit a bump and went flying through the air. He landed and was hit by his first wave of pain. It felt like a hatchet was stuck in his leg. When he came back he asked the giver for relief of pain but the giver said no because it was related to his training.

In Chapter 15, He went for his training and saw the giver was in much pain. The giver asked Jonas to take some of the pain. When Jonas put hiss hands on him he was in a field full of groaning men. A little boy next to him asked him for water as blood dripped from his mouth. After Jonas gave him water the boys head fell back and went motionless. Jonas looked around to find many men in the same state that the boy had had. He could hear the thud of cannons in the distance. When he came back, the giver told him,"I'm sorry."

Chapter 12

In Chapter 12 Jonas waked up and tells his parents that he did not have any dreams during the night. At school during recreation period all the twelves were a "buzz" telling about their first day. After school Fiona and Jonas were riding to the house of the old. When he got there he he saw what the giver called "seeing beyond." He looked at Fiona and her hair was changing. Not shape of size but something else. He walked inside and asked the giver about it. The giver told him to recall the memory of the sled ride. He looked at the sled and saw that it had changed too. He came back to the real world and told the giver about it. The giver told Jonas that it was color. The color that he had seen was the color red.

Welcome to My Blog!

Hi! I'm Steve and this website is my review/study guide for Lois Lowry's The Giver. This is a project for Mrs. Lesher's enriched reading class at Wissahickon Middle School. We had to read The Giver as a class project but a few of us were given the chance to compare The Giver and the Messenger or Gathering Blue. I read the Messenger. I hope you will find help on my website. Good Reading!
